Voyage

I finally got my work back from the October shows, now I'm in the process of scanning all the images. This part sucks because I have a tiny scanner and work way to large.
oh well, here is the first image I've scanned
it's 20"x31", done on Stonehenge printmaking paper mounted to masonite
I used watercolors for a base coat then rendered the skin with prismacolor pencils
after that I busted out the house paint (Behr) for the sea and sky
then I moved on to the hair with marker and a bit if acrylic
I finished it up with washes of water based oil

hope you like it

Nice one man, I dig that there's a little more narrative here for anyone who wants to read into it.

Really like this one, man - I also find the extra narrative/concept in this one really adds to the piece. Would love to see more like it.

Yeah, it's like our hair is like a great big ship that can take us on a wonderful voyage if we style it just right. Except it will keep our head submerged under the water and we'll drown anyway. The moral of the story? Overly-fancy hairstyles will be the death of you.

Just kidding, but seriously, what are some of your thoughts behind this piece. You can't just drop your little hair-ship lady on us without a bit of insight, man. I do like that you're expanding from your norm of "chick with hair" a bit. Now you've moved on to "chick with hair shaped like something".

Ah, enough jocular ball-busting. It's a nice piece.

sick... just cruising by and saw this piece. really nice. i really like how you worked with your materials. just from looking at it, it does not look like you used pencils for the face and house paint for the background. also, the way your stylized the hair and the way you rendered it is a nice touch.
as stated earlier... the narrative is really sweet.

Nice, a great job. A weeks ago I found your illustrations, and I saw in a spanish magazine something very similar, look the post about this in my blog: http://www.acid-a.com/2009/03/quien-copia-quien.html
